Finding Spiritual Armor

I drove for 3 hours today and was listening to Christian radio.  Driving is a great time for reflection and listening to Christian radio is a tremendous bonus :).  I can really focus on the words and message.  Today the scripture of Ephesians 6 was highlighted.  I had heard this scripture before however I had never really embrace the representations - what it meant.

In Ephesians 6:11 we read - Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  This is the equipment we need to face the manipulative and negative attacks we are going to face.  Do you think about how negative forces impact your daily life?  They may manifest in thoughts, actions, gossip and more.

Our society is quick to condemn sins related to sexual indiscretions and criminal actions however in the bible Jesus was equally if not more critical of areas like gossip.  Why do people gossip?  People often have the goal of building themselves up by making others look bad.  Recently I have been the target of negative words based on false assumptions.  I think we all fall in to this area from time to time however, the degrees of hurt may vary.

Furthermore in Proverbs 11:12–13  A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue. A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret. (NIV)

This is where we bring the armor out.  What is this armor God has provided?

  • The belt of truth buckled around your waist,.
  • The breastplate of righteousness
  • Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
  • The shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
  • The helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Wow - talk about giving us Teflon.  If we really look up the armor of God daily, what could we do?  There is nothing we couldn't withstand.  There is no room for gossip when you have your armor on.

I am going to meditate on the armor daily to ensure I am ready to meet the day.  Join Me?
